We are currently hiring for the following positions

Senior Environmental Specialist

ENKON Environmental Ltd. has an immediate opening for a full-time permanent position as a Senior Environmental Specialist to join our team in our Surrey office.  We are expanding our team to respond to growth and new opportunities.  ENKON provides a dynamic and positive work environment which supports innovation and creativity.  We offer flexible work hours, a competitive salary and benefits package, and provide allowances to work remotely and banked flex time.

Ideal candidates will have a university degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Environmental Restoration, Forestry, or related degree with a technical environmental diploma relevant to watershed management. 

Position:

You will work independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams on a variety of projects for both industry, and government clientele.  The majority of your work will be in the lower mainland region.

The successful applicant will be an effective communicator with demonstrated experience in the field of aquatic biology and watershed management with a focus on aquatic and riparian ecosystem management.  You will provide a demonstrated understanding of natural watershed and stream channel processes and be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and project requirements.  You will be a solutions-oriented individual providing subject matter expertise to multi-disciplinary projects in a leadership role and demonstrated experience advancing environmental design solutions to achieve project objectives.

The work will involve environmental assessments, watercourse classification, fish habitat evaluation, preparation of environmental impact assessments, compensation/offsetting and restoration plans, development of monitoring programs; regulatory permitting, and construction phase monitoring.  Duties will include the development of technical work plans and cost proposals, project management, and coordinate staffing.

As a senior specialist you will responsible for the mentorship, coaching, and leadership with junior and intermediate staff.  The successful applicant will have established working relationships within industry and regulatory bodies and will be expected to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and regulatory authorities through the continued demonstration of technical proficiency, professionalism, and integrity.    

Required Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate science degree related to Watershed Management, Aquatic Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Sciences and 10 years of applicable work experience; or a relevant graduate degree and 5 years of applicable work experience.  A technical diploma or post-graduate certificate with related experience will be considered an asset.

  • Registered as R.P.Bio, P.Ag, or RPF.

  • Project management experience in the delivery of environmental assessment and environmental approval processes.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in the application of relevant Provincial and Federal environmental and natural resource legislation, policies, and professional standards.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with local lower mainland region municipal government bylaws and policies pertinent to land development and environmental protection.

  • Demonstrated experience in watercourse assessment and classification, wetland evaluation, and riparian area assessments.

  • Demonstrated experience as a primary Qualified Environmental Professional in relation to the Riparian Areas Regulation.

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and submission of successful Water Sustainability Act change approvals.

  • Demonstrated ability to advance aquatic impact mitigation and compensation/offsetting designs, and development of restoration and enhancement plans.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral presentation skills with clear, concise written communication skills (in English).

  • Ability to provide quality assurance/quality control reviews to junior and intermediate staff.

  • Comfortable and willing to work in challenging terrain, adverse weather conditions, and active construction sites.

  • Must have a driver’s license and vehicle for transport to field locations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in urban watershed management and low impact design.

  • Certification in electro-fishing.

  • Experience in hydrometric monitoring and modeling.

  • Direct experience with GPS field data collection (Trimble platforms) and GIS mapping and analysis (ESRI software)

  • ISA Certified Arborist designation or hazard tree assessment certification (TRAQ) will be considered an asset.

Intermediate Environmental Scientist

Ideal candidates will have a university degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Environmental Restoration, Forestry, or related degree or a technical environmental diploma with a combination of work experience relevant to aquatic or fisheries biology. 

Position:

You will work independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams on a variety of projects for both industry, and government clientele.  The majority of your work will be in the lower mainland region.

The successful applicant will be technically proficient in the development and execution of field studies in support of  aquatic and riparian ecosystem management.  You will demonstrate a working knowledge and proficiency in watershed level dynamics.  You will be a flexible and adaptable individual who brings and results focused, solutions-oriented approach to multi-disciplinary projects.  The successful applicant will possess good communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

The work will involve mapping and classifications of sensitive habitats, design of environmental monitoring programs, fish and riparian habitat evaluation, GIS mapping and analysis, support of compensation/offsetting and restoration plans, regulatory permitting and notifications, fish distribution assessments, fish and amphibian salvage operations, and construction phase monitoring.

As an intermediate specialist you will responsible for the successful completion of project and foster healthy industry client and industry relationships through the demonstration of the inherent integrity and professionalism that is key to ENKON’s identity.

Required Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate science degree related to Aquatic Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Sciences and 5 years of applicable work experience; or a relevant graduate degree and 2 years of applicable work experience, or a technical diploma with relevant work experience will be considered.

  • Registered as R.P.Bio, P.Ag, or RPF or eligible for registration within 6 months.

  • A working knowledge in the application of relevant Provincial and Federal environmental and natural resource legislation, policies, and professional standards.

  • Experience with local lower mainland region municipal government bylaws and policies pertinent to land development and environmental protection.

  • Experience in watercourse assessment and classification, wetland evaluation, and riparian area assessments.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral presentation skills with clear, concise written communication skills (in English).

  • Comfortable and willing to work in challenging terrain, adverse weather conditions, carry heavy field equipment, and work in active construction sites.

  • Experience with the identification and management of invasive species

  • Must have a driver’s license and vehicle for transport to field locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in electro-fishing.

  • Experience in the deployment and operation of automated water quality and hydrometric instrumentation.

  • Experience with development of successful riparian restoration planting plans

  • Experienced with GPS field data collection (Trimble platforms) and GIS mapping and analysis (ESRI software)

  • ISA Certified Arborist designation or hazard tree assessment certification (TRAQ) will be considered an asset.

  • Possessing an Industrial Vegetation Management & Noxious Weed Pesticide Applicator Certificate will be considered an asset.
